Concept

These photographs seek to go beyond documenting the artistry and athleticism of the dancers and to explore their emotions and allow the viewer to interpret the images through their own perceptions. All images are captured in a darkened studio with a combination of constant and strobe light sources and all are created in the camera at the moment of performance. There is no photoshop manipulation of the images. There are ‘angels', subtle and engaging, graceful and light with gossamer wings; the ‘movements' bursting with energy, light and mystery; a trilogy of swans, the essence of the graceful classical dancer; the 'emotives' spinning, raging and bursting to be free; and ‘monsters' and ‘graces' seemingly opposite but bound by the magic of dance.

Photographer

The photographer, British born Stuart Lawson, has spent most of his life living in 11 countries around the world as a banker including 26 years based in Moscow. Since January 2022 he has moved to France and is continuing his studio work and is documenting local personalities and athletes. A lifelong amateur photographer, Stuart had the opportunity to document the backstage life of the Perm and Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko ballets producing three books and culminating in a major exhibition of 2 meters photographs in Moscow. The new collection for 'Dancers Soul' Dubai was created in the studio with dancers from the Bolshoi ballet.
